An old postcard

An old postcard of Barnes hospital. Kind of fun. Not sure who would want pictures of hospitals on their wall though.

Hospital Rule #1

So I've so far deduced one main rule of the hospital, with a new corollary:
1.  If you bother someone about something long enough, they'll eventually do it (specifically, interns on call)
  a.  If you waste someone's time on the phone long enough on a consult, they'll eventually just come by or approve whatever you need just to get the stupid intern off the phone...

Dinner!

Well, not tonight, but this has been dinner a few call nights.

Dress-up

Just like little kids want to put on surgical masks to play doctor, little interns want to put on loupes to play surgeon... The department will order me a set next year, but it's tough to resist the temptation to play dress up with the loupes someone left in the call room.

Historic appreciation versus convenience

While it's nice to have services named after great physicians of the past, it is a bit confusing for people in other departments - nothing like returning a page from a mediune floor and overhearing the struggle to figure out what a "ravitch" is!

The intern with two bosses

I am probably the only intern in the whole hospital with two chiefs. I'm hoping this isn't a reflection on my competence. Actually, I know it isn't, it's a reflection of some disorganization of the new year, but it's stilll painful to have two bosses - also leads to some late days covering both services.
